Advent is not a countdown to Christmas. It is a direct confrontation with a staggering truth: The God who created the universe chose to be born into it.
If that is true and we claim to believe it, then the season of Advent really means something. After all, you get ready for what is real. You prepare for what is important.
Advent is the Church’s gentle reminder not to drift mindlessly into Christmas.
Do not let the noise of sales and schedules bury the only thing that matters. Prepare your soul. Make time for prayer. Go to Mass one extra day a week. Visit someone lonely.
Do these things not out of obligation, but because the God who made you is drawing you deeper into the reality of the greatest gift He can offer: Himself, born into our world and born anew into our hearts this Christmas.
"The world might have expected the Son of God to be born—if He was to be born at all—in an inn. A stable would be the last place in the world where one would have looked for Him. Divinity is always where one least expects to find it." ~ Venerable Fulton Sheen
